Thomas Beall of George Town in the District of Columbia sells for $100 to the yellow woman Lucy, alias Lucy Evans (who was freed by a certain John Evans of Prince George Co., Maryland) the East half oflot #114 being on Green Street 120 feet on the South Side of Bealls Street 30 feet. [First document] At the request of Negro Lucy the manumission was recorded on 23 September 1803. Negro Lucy was late the property of Philip Evans and liberated herself by paying the sum of 35 pounds to John Evans, who was the Executor of Philip Evans estate. She was valued at 35 pounds by Dr. William Baker and Mr. Overton Carr. The Executor acknowledged having received the 35 pounds. Manumission was dated 28 May 1803.
