Certificate of freedom was recorded on 11 April 1806. Maryland St. Mary's County to wit: "I hereby certify that the Bearer Henry Curtis is free born, and was born near Charlotte Hall in the County aforesaid, and is now a resident of the same, about 24 years of age, 5'2" high, of a dark complexion, has a tolerable good countenance, [has] some of his upper teeth decayed, and has a small scar on his right hand.
