Abstract

Bill of sale [ and manumission] was recorded on 23 August 1806. Joseph Huddlestone paid the Jail Fee of Edward Fisher Toogood's Negro boy (who Toogood named Robert Cooper). Robert is about 18 years old and is confined in Washington Co. jail as a runaway. Toogood sells Robert to Huddlestone for $40 for a term of three years and three month, until 10 September 1809, after which Robert will be set free. Document is signed 10 January 1806 by Edward Fisher Toogood who signs with an X.
