Abstract

(First document] Bill of sale [and manumission] were recorded on 16 March 1809. Rachel Clayton of St. George's Hundred in the Co. of New Castle, Delaware was executrix of the last will and testament of Joshua Clayton, Esq., deceased, late of New Castle Co., Delaware. In consideration of $40, to be paid by John West of the town of New Castle, Rachel Clayton sells a Negro girl named Celia [or Celea] age about seven years, who is a slave belonging to the estate of Joshua Clayton. Under the agreement, John West is to set Celia free when she attains the age of 28. Signed on 20 June 1803 by Rachel Clayton. [Second document] John West for $150 paid by Peter Miller, of the same county, assigns and gives over to Peter Miller the remaining time of Celia's manumission. Dated l February 1809
