Abstract

Bond [and manumission] was recorded on 7 February 1822. [First document] Benjamin L. Lear and Perrin Willis bind themselves by this document, to Michael Nourse in the amount of $300, which is to be paid to Michael Nourse. Signed on 20 December 1821. [Second document] Now Michael Nourse has sold to Perrin Willis a Negro girl named Eliza age about 20, as a slave to serve until IO August 1833, and then to be free. The condition of this obligation is such that if Perrin Willis will truly respect the right of Eliza to be free at the stated time, and "shall not at any time hereafter sell [her] for any longer time than stated," then Benjamin L. Lear's and Perrin Willis' obligation to Michael Nourse will be void, otherwise it will remain in full force. Signed by Perrin Willis and Benjamin L. Lear, witness John R. Nouse.
