Abstract

Bill of sale [chattel mortgage] was recorded on 19 April 1822. William G. Ridgely, in consideration of Walter Smith, Esq. of the District of Columbia becoming endorser on certain notes discounted at the Farmers and Merchants Bank and the Bank of Columbia ( one for $1,900 and one for $300), and in order to secure the payments of the notes, conveys to Walter Smith in trust certain property. The property is as follows: a Negro man named Girard [Gerard] age about 24, a Negro man named Beall age about 18, a Negro boy named Allen age about 13, a Negro woman named Nancy age about 16, a large silver bread basket, [and other silver items], and 18 shares of stock in the George Town Importing and Exporting Company.
