Deed in Trust. Samuel Cooper is indebted to Isaac Avery for $400. Roderick Murchison and Alexander B. McMillion are securities on the note. To guarantee payment, Cooper appoints Richard Gentry Trustee and puts at least five tracts of land totaling 400 acres into the Trust. Buried after the description of these lands, Cooper includes “also one Negro Boy slave age about eighteen years named Alford…”. Cooper authorizes Richard Gentry to sell any of the properties, and/or Alford if Murchison or McMillion ask him to. The document was dated, presented in Court and registered March 16, 1848.
