Deed of Sale. John Reed sells “Four negro slaves heretofore of my property”: A negro man named Ceasar, one negro woman Hannah, one negro girl Phebe and one negro boy called Ceasar. Consideration was “One hundred and ten Virginia Cash.” John Reed was a Miller. No additional information about the enslaveds’ ages or relationships. The document spells “Ceasar” as it is transcribed. Signed April 18, 1750, and finalized in May Court 1750.
