Deed in Trust. John Perry, Jr. owes Jonah Holley $90.53, and William Perry $100 + $50 + $138.91, with all notes being overdue. To secure payment, John Perry places in Trust with J.H. Etheridge “right, title and interest in six negroes now in possession of my mother, Elizabeth Perry.” There are no names or other information about the enslaved in this document, but they are probably in Life Estate with Elizabeth, and would pass to John Perry, Jr. at her death. Also included in the Trust are a 230-acre parcel of land, buggy, cart, horse, sheep, hogs, cattle, household and kitchen furniture, corn, etc. Etheridge is authorized to sell the property “when required by Holley or William Perry”. Document was presented in Court March 7, 1844 and registered March 12, 1844. See NC.BER.GG.63.1, where Etheridge is Trustee for a different Perry.
