Deed of Gift. Robert Howell, for consideration of “love goodwill and affection which I have for my son in law Francis Hobson Junior”, gives Francis “one negro man named Sharpes, one negro woman named Fanny her and her increase”. Francis Hobson, Jr. is in Beaufort County, south of Bertie, and the enslaved might have transferred down there. There is no further information about Sharpes and Fanny, or whether Fanny has “increase”, but maybe they are a couple. Deed is dated September 20, 1760 and entered in October Court 1760.
