Abstract

"Bill of Sale, but noted as ""written deed."" Michael Day had died and bequeathed land and ten enslaved people to his widow Caty Day. The Grimes say they are transferring “…all the interest of the said Mathias and Eve in or to the following Negroes and their increase to wit Caty, Sally, Ellen, George, Elizabeth, Susannah, Lydia, Warren, Mariah, Emalin being the Negroes bequeathed by the said Michael Day to his widow during her widowhood and after her death to her children…”. This document was signed June 2, 1847, presented in the Davidson County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions August 1847, and recorded September 25, 1847. "
