Abstract

“Written Agreement”. When Thomas James Collett died, he transferred nine enslaved people to his daughter Nancy King. The enslaved are listed as Rose, Rachel, Eliza, Esau, Henry, Gabriel, Peter, Mary and Jesse. The Commissioners dutifully assigned a value to each enslaved person. Rose--$350, Rachel--$475, Eliza--$700, Esau--$635, Henry--$200, Gabriel--$750, Peter--$600, Mary--$400, and Jesse--$500, for a total of $4600. The document was signed January 7, 1852, presented in the Davidson County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions February 1852 and registered June 8, 1852.
