Abstract

To secure her estate prior to the contemplated marraige to James Clemmons of Guilford County, Esther Hargrave of Davidson County, widow of Jesse Hargrave, sold her right and title to Bob and his wife Jinny and their children Sylvia, Eliza, Matilda, and Viny; Harry, Sarah; Bob and Sarah's 2 children [unnamed]; Emily and Jesse, to trustees Benjamin Overman of Guilford County, John W. Lindsay of Davidson, and Andrew Lindsay of Guilford for $1. The trustees were to treat the property as if she were a feme sole, giving her control of the enslaved labor during her lifetime and upon her death.
