Bill of Sale. William Spurgin of Stokes County, NC sells to Haley Brown of Davidson County “…Certain Negroes (To Wit) Sally aged twenty five years & two children Albert aged four years and Ellen aged two years…” for $1000. No further information about the enslaved, and I will assume Albert and Ellen are Sally’s children, although this isn’t specified. Spurgin warrants the “soundness & health” of Sally, Albert and Ellen. The document was signed November 24, 1836, presented in Court May 1837 and registered June 23, 1837. (Abstractor’s note: DavidsonCounty Deed Books 6 and 7 were microfilmed By the North Carolina Dept. of Archives and History, on one roll of microfilm (December 9, 1966). The “roll” has internal identification number 1575, and has Family Search identification number 007539232.
