“Mortgage”. Lewis Fitzgerald has a bond of some kind with the Sheriff of Davidson County for $684. Nathan Parkes is security for the bond. In this document, Fitzgerald transfers to Parkes “…one Negro boy Robert, about seven years old…”. No further information about Robert or his relationships. If Fitzgerald takes care of the bond somehow, before 1 December “next”, the transfer is voided. I’m guessing Parkes would keep title to Robert if Fitzgerald defaults on his bond. The document was signed April 27, 1840, presented to the Clerk of Court April 38, 1840 and registered April 30, 1840. (Abstractor’s note: Davidson County Deed Books 6 and 7 were microfilmed By the North Carolina Dept. of Archives and History, on one roll of microfilm (December 9, 1966). The “roll” has internal identification number 1575, and has Family Search identification number 007539232. Book 6 pages 1-543 are on microfilm images 8-297, and Book 7 pages 1-564 are on microfilm images 302-600. The current document starts on image 463, in the Book 7 section.)
