Deed of Trust. William Adderton enlisted Jeremiah Adderton to be security on two debts. Jeremiah has already paid $35 on a defaulted debt to Green H. Lee, and he may have to pay $275 for a debt to Abram Miller from August 1838. To protect Jeremiah Adderton from further financial liability (and maybe reimburse him for what he’s already paid), William Adderton places in Trust with Daniel Spence “…all my right title and interest in the Negroes belonging to the Estate of Loveless Adderton deceased…”, plus any proceeds he’s entitled to from sale of that estate’s land. Trustee Daniel Spence is authorized to sell the enslaved and/or land “when requested” by Jeremiah Adderton, and make payment. No further information about the enslaved people involved. However, William Adderton previously placed several named slaves into two different Trusts at NC.DAI.6.235.1 and NC.DAI.7.38.1. There is no mention of those enslaved people having come from the Loveless Adderton estate, so inspecting the previous Trusts may or may not be helpful. Further however, William Adderton used enslaved people in three Trusts in the two Davidson County Deed Books this Abstractor has surveyed, so he’s a frequent user
