Deed of Trust. Valentine Pence owes about $250 to several people. To guarantee payment, he places in Trust with John Clement a 30 acre plot of land, tools, livestock, furniture, etc. and “…a Negro woman named Easther aged between twenty eight and thirty years…”. No further information about Easther or her relationships. This document was signed and presented to the Clerk of the Davie County Court on December 31, 1840.
