This indenture and writing made this nineteenth day of November in the year of Christ one thousand eight hunbdred and twenty two between Sihon Tatum of the county of Guilford and State of North Carolina of the one part and William McCain of the county and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Sihon Tatum being indebted to Allen Peeples guardian for the heirs of Hincheon Vaughn, deceased of the county of Guilford and state aforesaid the sum of one hundred and ninety one dollars thirty six and a half cents by bind bearing date as follows one note dated the 19th day of November 1822 for the sum of one hundred and ninety one dollars thirty six and a half cents due three days after date with interest thereon until paid and being desirous of securing to the sd. Allen Peeples (guardian as aforesaid) the sum of many as well as the interest thereon up to the time stated above which will soon become due together with the further consideration of one dollar to him in hand paid by the sd. William McCain the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged by the sd. Sihon Tatum have bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell ... and confirm unto the sd. William McCain one negro boy slave by the name of John aged ten years to have and to hold the above bargained and sold negro boy slave John to the Sd. William McCain his heirs and representatives forever and the sd. Sihon Tatum for himself his heirs and representations doth hereby warrant and defend the title interest and claim to the sd. negro slave John to the sd. William McCain his heirs and representations forever but the sd. William McCain is to have and to hold the aforesaid negro slave John for the special trust and confidence however that whenever he the said William McCain shall hereafter be registered either by the said Allen Peeples or by the sd. Sihon Tatum (after the expiration of three months from this date) to make the aforesaid sum of money together with whatsoever sum or sums of money which may be due to owing from the sd. Sihon Tatum to the sd. Allen Peeples (guardian aforesaid) at the time such request shall be made that he the said William McCain after giving then days public notice shall expose to public sale the aforesaid negro slave John to the highest bidder for ready money having first adventured the time and place of sale in at least three public places in the neighborhood in the county aforesaid and after having sold the same to the highest and last bidder he the said William McCain shall pay over the proceeds of such sale to the said Allen Peeples in Satisfaction of his debts aforesaid and in satisfaction of all or any other debts dues or demands which the said Sihon Tatum may justly owe to the sd. Allen Peeples (as aforesaid at or before the sale aforesaid and the balance of any shall be paid by the sd. William McCain to the said Sihon Tatum after deducting all expenses of carrying this deed into effect and the proceeds of said sale shall not be sufficient in amount to satisfy the sd. debt dues or demands then the sd. William McCain shall give to the sd. Sihon Tatum credit against the sd. debts dues or demands to the sd. amount of the proceeds of the sd. sale. In testimony whereof the sd.
