Know all men by these presents that Abraham Forrest high Sheriff of Montgomery County in the State of North Carolina by virtue of an execution at the instance of William Johnson and another at the instance of Henry Ledbetter both issuing from the Superior Court of Law of Montgomery County against William Sadberry and returnable to March Term of said Court 1826 for certain monies therein mentioned for debts and costs thereon did seize and take into his hands and custody a certain negro woman slave named Sally aged about twenty four years and her child aged nearly one year named Miranda and after having advertised said negroes according to Law Exposed the same to public sale at the Court House of Montgomery on the seventh day of March 1826, at which time and place George C. Mendenhall of the County of Guildford and State aforesaid became the last and highest Bidder at the sum of four hundred and forty one dollars. Now know ye that for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and forty one dollars to the said A. Forrest in hand paid by the said George C. Mendenhall at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt and payment whereof is hereby acknowledged the said A. Forrest Sheriff hath bargained sold and delivered and by these presents doth bargain sell and deliver the said negroes Sally and her child Miranda to the said George C. Mendenhall to have and hold to him and his heirs and assigns forever and further doth warrant the Title of said negroes Sally and Miranda to said George C. Mendenhall his heirs and assigns forever so far as the said Sheriff is empowered by virtue of his office.
