Abstract

Deed of Trust. James F. Martin (presumed Sr.) has debts with two Banks, totaling at least $3350. His son, James Martin Jr. is security on the loans. To protect James Jr., James Sr. puts into Trust with Richard H. Alexander “…the following negroes to wit, Dick, aged about forty four, Henny about thirty five Brum about eight years old—Smith, Washington, America, Caty, Elizabeth, Nancy, Ritter, Amelia, Mickey, Matt about fifty years of age…”. The document was signed August 20, 1828, presented in the Superior Court of Law in Fall, 1828 and registered in Rowan County April 2, 1829.
