Deed in Trust, I think. James Watley owes Addison Rouseau $500. In this document he “sells” “a certain Negro Boy by the name of Washington aged 24 years”, with the understanding that Rouseau can sell Washington if Watley does not pay the $500 plus interest by October 10, 1851. No further information about Washington or his relationships, and he is described as a “boy”, age 24. The name “Watley” is my best guess from the signature, but the clerk spelled it several different ways in the body of the document: they look like Wallis, Wallys, Mattys, etc. The promissory note is from James Wattis and William Wattis. Document was signed August 5, 1851, presented in Court August 1851 and registered August 8, 1851.
