“Bill of Sale”, but actually Deed of Gift. Edmund Tilley says he sells “to Mildred Goforth my mother in law at the death of myself and my wife undivided moiety of a negro woman named Matilda and her children Georg and Susan with their future increase…”. Tilly says he is keeping the enslaved “and their increase” in Life Estate until both he and his wife have died. No further information about Matilda, Georg and Susan or their relationships. Tilley’s wife is named once, but the initial “M” is all I’m certain about. Document was signed March 19, 1851, presented in Court August 1851, and registered October 27, 1851.
