Deed of Gift, Deed of Trust. Leonard Whittington gifts to his daughter Anne Johnson, wife of A.J. Johnson, 100 acres of land, livestock, the kitchen and house furniture in the place where she is living, and “the following Negro slaves (to wit) one Negro woman Annis, one Negro boy Lewis one Negro girl Chaney together with their increase…”. John Whittington is appointed Trustee, and is directed to see that the gifts are “for the benefit of Anne Johnson during her natural life, and at her death equally divided between her children…” implying she has two children. Any rents and annual payments from the “property” are to be for the separate and sole benefit of Anne Johnson. No further information about the enslaved, their ages or relationships. The document was signed January 16, 1854, presented in Court February 1854 and registered April 14, 1854.
