Abstract

Bill of Sale. Owen Mannerman (Masserman?) sells to Gwyn and Litle Hickerson “a Negro Boy slave…by name of Jack about eleven years old of yellow complexion which said Nego I warrant to be sound and healthy and a slave for life” for $157. Owen M. says he will keep possession of Jack until he is paid the $157, but with a deadline of June 1, 1852. No other information about Jack or his relationships. “Yellow complexion” may indicate he’s a mulatto, since he’s supposed to be healthy. This document was signed July 4, 1851, presented in Court July 17, 1851, but registered February 18, 1851. Note that there is confusion in numbering of pages around here in Book R. This document is on microfilm Image 86, and the page number is written as “94 ½”. It’s the second page 94.
