Deed in Trust. Zachariah B. Adams is indebted to “Leland Martin, guardian of L. O. Copeninng”, with a new promissory note for $160. To guarantee the note, Adams places some of his property in a trust with James Martin, who is authorized to sell the property if Adams defaults on the loan. Going into the trust are three tracts of land, totaling 250 acres, and “a negro girl named Caroline now in my possession aged about twelve years”. No further information about Caroline or her relationships. The document is dated February 22, 1855 and was registered February 27, 1855.
