Power of Attorney. Andrew Johnson of Wilkes County, NC appoints Phillip Johnson of Hempstead Co., Arkansas to act in his place to recover “property” Andrew Johnson says he is entitled to under the will of his grandmother Sarah Walker of Moore County, NC. Specifically, “property consisting of Negroes and chattel effects, now in the possession of Larkin Johnston” of Hempstead County, Arkansas. No further information about the enslaved. The clerk was inconsistent, so any of the “Johnsons” might be “Johnstons”. Document was signed, presented in Court and registered March 16, 1857.
