Deed in Trust. Jesse Minton is indebted to Amos Church, with overdue notes of $15.00, $10.85 and $100.00. In this document Minton is transferring a 115 acre tract of land, and “one negro boy about eight or nine years old named Vestal”, in trust, with the understanding that Church will be able to retain the property and Vestal if Minton does not pay the debts by June 13, 1857. Minton will keep possession of Vestal and the property until that time. Time was running out—document was signed June 13, 1856, presented in Court April 4, 1857 and registered April 5, 1857. No further information about Vestal or his relationships.
