Bill of Sale, from 18 years previously. The document states that David Gray sold to Mary Martin “a sartain Negro girl named Ann aged about fourteen years old for the sum of four hundred dollars”. Gray warrants that Ann is “sound and healthy…”. The document says it was signed January 20, 1841, but presented in Court and registered April 4, 1859. Note that Ann was 14 in 1841 and would have been about 32 in 1859. The document also notes that Mary Martin is now M.E. Perkins. Note also that an “Ann” was sold by Mary Martin in 1851 (NC.WIL.R.289.1).
