Abstract

NOTE: Book T has two different page 456’s. This document is the one on microfilm image 573. “Conveyance and Power of Attorney”. Eliza Pennel of Caldwell County, NC thinks she is an heir of her late Uncle Joshua Pennel. Joshua Pennel’s Executor Joshua Winkler has not given her anything, and Eliza is especially interested in getting what she thinks is due to her from “…my interest in the girl Harriet and her children…”, who apparently ended up with Joshua Winkler. There is no further information about Harriet or her children, and I’ll assume they are in Wilkes County. In this document Eliza appoints Calvin J. Cowles of Wilksboro, NC to act as her agent in trying to get what she thinks she’s due, and at the same time, he pays her $75 for all of her interests, current and future, in her uncle Joshua Pennel’s estate. I may be misunderstanding how this Power of Attorney is supposed to work. Eliza also rescinds two POA agreements she previously had with Phineas Horton and A.H. Horton. The document was signed October 7, 1859, presented in Court October 21, 1859 and registered October 25, 1859.
