Nine residents of Guadalupe County ask that Daniel, a free mulatto, be permitted to remain in the state. They report that "Daniel was brought to the county from Mexico, in Peonage, by a Mr. Joseph L. Gould”; when Gould died, Daniel was placed under the guardianship of Dr. T. M. Anderson, the administrator of Gould's estate. The residents concur that Daniel is a "well behaved industrious man & he is desirous of remaining in the state under his present Guardian." They therefore "request that a law be passed granting him permission ... to remain in the State of Texas."
