Petition #20482201
- Washington County, District of Columbia. June 25, 1822. - October 12, 1822.
- Court: Circuit
- Salutation: To the Honorable the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia, sitting, in Washington County, as a Court of Equity
Abstract
Adam Johnson, a male slave, states that George Clarke agreed to manumit him for $350 and gave him three years to raise the money. Johnson has paid part of the sum, but Clarke has begun "to harass your said orator by expressions of great dissatisfaction that your orator does not pay him more rapidly." Johnson fears Clarke will "dispose of your orator into foreign parts and thereby deprive him of the means of obtaining his manumission." Johnson asks the court to subpoena Clarke and issue an injunction against him.
Result: Granted; dissolved.
