Abstract

Bill of sale was recorded on 3 January 1817. [First document] Nathaniel Brashears of Washington City in the District of Columbia, for $5.00, sells to William Lambe le and Thomas Allen both of the same place, three Negro slaves: Hannah, Julian and Violet. Signed on 3 June 18 I 6 by Nathaniel Brashears. [Second document] Samuel N. Smallwood, a Justice of the Peace for Washington Co., states he has been appointed by William Lambe le and Thomas Allen to make a division of the Negroes brought from Nathaniel Brashears -- as stated in the above bill of sale -- including a Negro boy named Robert, a son of Hannah born since the above purchase was made. It is decided that Julian and Robert will go to William Lambele, and Hannah and her daughter Violet will go to Thomas Allen who pays William Lambele $25 and permits Hannah to provide and care for Robert for 12 months from this day. Signed on 15 November 1816 by Samuel N. Smallwood [Justice of the Peace for Washington Co.]. William Lambele and Thomas Allen also acknowledge and agree with the division and sign accordingly.
